Now that we’ve happily seen Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie and that immensely popular crew revived in theaters, Disney and Pixar have announced Toy Story 5 is moving to the living room. This means you can now enjoy part of 2026’s most anticipated animated movies from your own place. The film will reach digital platforms on 18/8/26, with collectors having the chance to purchase the 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD versions from 22/9.
This was confirmed by Disney’s official movie website, with a digital release first, and the physical editions following just over a month later. Still, this important distinction should be remembered by fans. The August 18 release is a digital purchase or rental release, rather than the film’s subscription streaming premiere on Disney+.
When this was announced, Disney had not yet revealed the Disney+ release date in the official information about home releases. It might still be a while before you can watch the film on your Disney+ subscription. Toy Story 5 was released into cinemas on 19 June 2026 and saw the return of the sometime-manipulated toys to our screens and minds for a story that took the characters into a very up-to-date issue: technology.
This installment saw Woody Buzz Jessie and their fellow toys and toys-in-waiting come up against the launch of Lilypad, a smart tablet that at first seems like a new toy to replace their old owner, Bonnie’s, old toys, but that soon looks set to upend Bonnie’s entire way of playing. The 27-year-old franchise was loosely described by Disney as “Toy meets Tech, ” giving it a story that was current and relevant to many modern day 21 st and 20 th-century families. Toy Story 5 broke the billion dollar barrier at the worldwide box office, confirming that there remains huge demand for Pixar’s most iconic characters. In reality it performed so well in cinemas means that it is mainly appropriate that its home release will give millions the chance to relive the world of Andy and Bonnie’s toys.
